Why Shouldn’t We Punish Or Send People To Prison So That Tomorrow We Will Not Come Back To Where We Are’- Gara Gombe Insists Firmness In Nigerian League

Gara Gombe has insisted that punishment be meted out to those who have wreaked havoc, mismanaged funds and have not taken proper responsibility for their office following Club Owners Association meeting with the new NFF Board led by Ibrahim Gusau.

The meeting produced shocking revelations, self-indicting claims, administrative and welfare debacles on the path of the club, officials not being paid, and sponsorship deals.

Gombe posited that the outcome was defined as self-indicting which is the summary of it, “indicting oneself, but it’s good, you can stand before a judge in the court of law and plead guilty just so that the judge can reason with you and be very considerate.”

“Now that they have indicted themselves, they have accepted that all these problems exist and yet year in and out they cooperate with the same people they are indicting.”

“What happens, are we just going to go like that without casualties, are we going to go like that without punishing anybody, how are we sure this same person will change tomorrow and fight for what is right when things are going wrong,” he queried.

“Why shouldn’t we punish somebody or send some people to prison so that tomorrow we will not come back to where we are.”

“Look at the issues they have raised, talking about television, sponsorship, officials not being paid all these things, are these guys just waking up today, come on.”

“But it’s good they are waking up and I thank them for their courage. Now, what’s next? My position is that some people must be punished,” Gara insisted.
