Paris-Saint Germain Feminine of France winger, Rasheedat Ajibade has cast another look back at Nigeria’s pathetic outing at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) and submitted that everyone in the team has to work harder for better results.
Sports247 reports that ‘The Lady With Blue Hair,’ who again captained the Super Falcons during this year’s competition in Morocco, acknowledged that the Nigerian players must work hard individually and collectively for their revival.
She reckoned that a lot of lessons were learnt from the team’s inability to reach the semi-finals, which knocked them out of a spot at the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since it began in 1991.
With the Falcons also having lost the ‘second chance’ qualification play-off 2-1 to South Africa, Ajibade admitted it was an unprecedented setback for the team and stressed that it’s time to take stock in order to prevent a recurrence in future.
“There are a lot of lessons for us to learn from this. This is a wake-up call for us to rise again and not rest on our laurels. We should learn not to be lax, because the competition is fierce now.
“We must realise we are not invincible. We just need to prepare longer and get better, then demand more of ourselves individually and collectively,” said the FC Robo Queens of Lagos product.
Sports247 reports further that Ajibade, who played in the past for Alkvadnes of Norway and Atletico Madrid Feminino of Spain, also noted that the players must shake off all disappointment in their hearts before the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers begin in October.
