Troost Ekong’s Udinese delays Juventus title party

Nigeria international, Troost Ekong was in the heart of the defense yesterday as his club, Udinese welcomes imminent Serie A Champions, Juventus in a crucial clash of the season as they chase their 9th consecutive Scudetto title in a row.

Maurizio Sarri’s champions-elect needed just one more win to clinch their ninth consecutive Serie A trophy – but they were forced to wait a few more days after surrendering a narrow lead.

Matthijs de Ligt’s strike moved the Old Lady to the brink of glory on the stroke of half-time, but a beleaguered Sarri was once again left seething after his side fell apart after the break.

A superb diving header from Ilija Nestorovski hauled Udinese level on 52 minutes, and Fofana added further insult to injury deep inside stoppage time after stealing a superb, and much needed, three points.

Juventus will be able to limp over the finish line on Sunday with a win against Sampdoria, but there remain serious question marks over the future of Sarri at the club.
