Kogi State Football Association chairman Hassan Wada has expressed optimism that the ongoing FIFA/NFF stakeholders meeting will provide clarity on the future leadership and administration of Nigerian football, including whether a normalisation or interim committee will be established.
Wada spoke after participating in the first day of discussions involving football stakeholders as efforts intensify to determine the way forward for the country’s football administration.
According to the Kogi FA chairman, Monday’s deliberations were encouraging, but he believes stakeholders will have a clearer understanding of the direction being considered only after the meetings are concluded.
The discussions have attracted significant attention because of uncertainty surrounding the structure that could emerge from the ongoing reform process.
One of the major questions is whether Nigerian football will proceed under its existing administrative framework or whether circumstances could lead to the establishment of a normalisation committee or another interim arrangement.
Wada stopped short of predicting the outcome, insisting that it would be premature to reach conclusions while discussions are still taking place.
He instead expressed confidence that the process would provide the necessary clarity once all relevant parties have been heard.
His position comes amid growing calls for comprehensive reforms in Nigerian football, with stakeholders expressing different views about the extent of changes required and how they should be implemented.
The involvement of FIFA has further increased interest in the discussions, particularly because any changes to the governance of the NFF must take into account the statutes and regulations governing football administration.
For Wada, however, the immediate priority is allowing the consultation process to run its course rather than speculating about its final outcome.
The Kogi FA chairman believes the picture should become considerably clearer when the stakeholders meetings are completed and the next steps are communicated.
Until then, questions surrounding the possibility of a normalisation committee, an interim arrangement or another reform structure remain unresolved.
But after the opening day of talks, Wada’s message is one of optimism: Nigerian football may not have all the answers yet, but he expects the path forward to become clearer very soon.
