Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has revealed that Nigeria’s shortage of international matches is largely because many countries are reluctant to face the African giants.

Speaking on the team’s limited schedule, Madugu admitted that the situation has become a major concern for the coaching crew.
“Many teams don’t want to play us,” he said.
According to the coach, the Nigeria Football Federation has approached several countries in search of friendly games, but many nations, especially in Europe, have declined.
“They prefer to play within Europe,” he implied.
Madugu explained that many European teams are focusing on preparing for World Cup qualifiers against familiar opposition, leaving Nigeria struggling to secure fixtures.
“It’s affecting our preparations,” he noted.
The coach admitted that the lack of games is frustrating, particularly for a team trying to maintain sharpness and improve cohesion ahead of future tournaments.
“We are not happy about it,” he added.
For Madugu, regular competitive matches are essential for tactical development and player assessment.
“You need games to improve,” he stressed.
Despite the challenges, he insisted the team remains committed to finding solutions and staying prepared.
“We will keep working,” he said.
The Super Falcons remain one of Africa’s strongest women’s teams, but concerns over preparation continue to generate debate.
For Madugu, the message is clear.
The team needs more matches.
The federation is trying.
And stronger collaboration is needed.
Because at elite level, preparation can make the difference between success and failure.
