The president of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmad Musa Kida has pointed out that the performance of the country’s contingent to this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland will to a large extent inspire the nation’s next generation of sports talents.

Sports247 reports that Kida made the declaration while pointing out the need for Team Nigeria to hit the ground running when the Games of Glasgow 2026 formally commence on Thursday, as he is also of a view that the athletes have received all necessary support they need to excel.
Kida commended officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and various sports federations for their efforts in giving the contingent adequate preparations towards the Games, then stressed that the athletes now have to complement all effort by churning out medals in Glasgow.
He urged Team Nigeria athletes to repay the Federal Government’s improved support for sports by delivering outstanding performances, which would justify the energetic efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The NBBF boss pointed out that the present administration has shown extra interest in the areas of increased support for athletes’ welfare, funding of all sporting federations, upgrading facilities and introduction of development programmes across the country.
Kida, who is also the chairman of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), further urged the athletes to remain focused and approach every event with confidence, as each medal they win will inspire millions of young Nigerians who are aspiring for careers in sports.
“The support being extended to our athletes should serve as motivation for Team Nigeria to give their very best and make the nation proud. The athletes carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians, and their performances have the power to inspire the next generation of champions,” Kida submitted.
Sports247 reports further that Team Nigeria will participate in the events of 10 different sport disciplines at Glasgow 2026, where the NSC has given a charge for 16 to 20 gold medals that cut across athletics, boxing, judo, swimming, weightlifting, 3×3 basketball and wheelchair basketball.
