Sylvester Emmanuel Seeks Clay Courts In Nigeria

Nigerian tennis ace and the country’s acclaimed ‘King of The Clay,’ Sylvester Emmanuel has joined the growing calls for more clay court championships in the country.

Emmanuel said in an interview with sports247.ng that introduction of such competitions in the country would provide Nigeria a comparative advantage in Africa.

He pointed out that Nigerian players are currently finding it tough to cope on clay courts in the international circuit, particularly during the Davis Cup, because such surfaces are not common in the country.

Emmanuel, who gained prominence following his sojourn to Spain, which is largely regarded as the clay court capital of the tennis world, insists stepping up efforts at that regard is long overdue.

He stressed: “The need to expose more Nigerian players to frequent competitive matches on clay is imperative for success across board.”
