A certified swimming technical expert from South Africa, Finch Cedric has been confirmed to take charge as lead facilitator of a five-day course that will begin this Tuesday at Lagos National Stadium, Surulere, Sports247 reports.
The technical swimming coaching course, which is scheduled to hold from Tuesday until Saturday, is part of continuous efforts by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support member nations in developing their indigenous coaches.
Furthermore, the programme, which will be staged under the banner of Olympic Solidarity, is further aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s swimming coaching structure, while addressing identified gaps that currently exist in technical development and athlete progression.
The public relations officer of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tony Nezianya confirmed that Cedric will serve as the lead facilitator, while Mrs Olaniyan Dolapo Rofiat will coordinate the course, which will upgrade the technical capacity of indiegenous coaches with modern tactics.
Nezianya disclosed further that NOC president, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel will declare open the programme, which will be staged in collaboration with Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) and is aimed towards aligning local coaching standards with international best practices.
Sports247 gathered further that NAqF has selected 35 swimming coaches from across the country for the course, which is also expected to expose participants to contemporary technical knowledge and international standards needed up to elite levels.
