Former Super Eagles player and coach, Samson Siasia, has thrown his weight behind the 2nd edition of the 10th Senate President’s U18 Unity Football Tournament, describing it as a powerful platform for discovering and nurturing young football talents across Nigeria.
The ex-international, who enjoyed a decorated career both as a player and coach, said the tournament — spearheaded by Senate President Ahmad Lawan — represents a beacon of hope for the next generation of Nigerian footballers while promoting unity, peace, and youth empowerment through sports.

“I am honored to be part of this prestigious tournament that promotes peace and unity among Nigerian youths through the beautiful game of football,” Siasia said. “This platform will allow young players to showcase their talents and learn vital values like teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.”
Siasia’s endorsement comes as a major boost for the grassroots competition, which is set to kick off on November 6, 2025, in Abuja, featuring teams from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Known for his commitment to youth football development, Siasia’s involvement adds significant credibility to the tournament. His track record includes leading Nigeria’s U20 team to a silver medal at the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup, guiding the U23s to Olympic bronze in 2016, and managing the Super Eagles during crucial stages in their competitive campaigns.
Football stakeholders have lauded the Senate President’s initiative as a vital contribution to national integration and sports-driven development. Beyond fostering unity, the tournament serves as a talent discovery hub, with scouts from top clubs and national team handlers expected to attend.
Organizers say the competition aligns with the federal government’s broader agenda on youth empowerment and grassroots sports promotion, aiming to build bridges across communities through the universal language of football.
“The league may end in trophies, but its true legacy will be in the young lives transformed,” Siasia remarked, reflecting his belief that sports can unite and uplift Nigerian youth.
As anticipation builds ahead of kickoff in Abuja, Siasia’s endorsement has further elevated the tournament’s profile — setting the stage for what promises to be an inspiring celebration of talent, teamwork, and national unity.
