“I just had to make myself happy again,” Ajayi said.
According to the Nigerian athlete, discussions with his coach later revealed there had been some confusion regarding the qualifying format for the event.
“There was a bit of miscommunication,” he implied.
Ajayi explained that despite the setback, he chose to respond positively by stepping up for the relay races instead of dwelling on disappointment.
“I wanted to move forward quickly,” he noted.
The sprinter stressed that the experience provided valuable lessons that could help him improve mentally and tactically moving forward.
“I’ve definitely learned from it,” he added.
Ajayi remains one of Nigeria’s promising sprint talents despite the frustrating outing at the competition.
“Setbacks are part of athletics,” many track observers believe.
The Nigerian athlete also emphasized the importance of staying mentally strong after difficult moments in elite sports.
“You can’t stay down for too long,” he stressed.
For Ajayi, the message is clear.
Disappointments happen.
Lessons must be learned quickly.
And athletes must always find ways to respond positively.
Because growth in sports often comes through how competitors handle difficult moments.
