Nigerian athlete Patience Okon-George has expressed delight after helping Team Nigeria win gold in the women’s 4x400m relay at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.
Okon-George, who ran the anchor leg for Nigeria, praised the performance of the entire relay team after the quartet executed a strong race from start to finish.
“Relay racing is something I’m very experienced in,” she said.
According to the Nigerian sprinter, teamwork and proper execution played a major role in securing the gold medal.
“We worked together very well,” she implied.
The veteran athlete commended her teammates for maintaining composure throughout the race and delivering when it mattered most.
“Everyone played their part perfectly,” she noted.
Okon-George also revealed that she remains focused on improving her personal performance despite her achievements.
“I still want to run faster,” she added.
The Nigerian star explained that one of her major goals moving forward is to improve on her lifetime best of 50.71 seconds ahead of future international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games.
“I’m still chasing improvement,” she stressed.
For Okon-George, continuing to compete at a high level requires constant discipline and motivation.
“You can never stop working,” she said.
The relay victory added another gold medal to Nigeria’s growing success at the championships.
