Rangers International Chase Ninth Nigerian League Title In Last NPFL Match Away To Ikorodu City Of Lagos

Rangers International of Enugu will on Sunday be all out in a gigantic effort to create history on away ground, as they seek a ninth Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) title against Ikorodu City of Lagos.

Sports247 reports that it promises to be an exciting evening of massive fireworks at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan area of Lagos, as Rangers will be desperate for victory, because their nearest rival for the title, Rivers United of Port Harcourt have a huge advantage of playing at home in the last fixtures of the season.

Interestingly, Ikorodu City were also initially in contention for the title until they lost steam along the way, but they will also be eager for victory in order to pick the NPFL’s CAF Confederation Cup ticket.

Furthermore, while The Oga Boys are no longer in contention for the title, they have pride to play for, as well as a part of history that could see them recalled forever as the team that stopped Rangers from winning the NPFL title in 2026.

Coach Bright Ozegbagbe would also want to end the season on a high and with his team’s home reputation intact, thereby making Sunday’s clash at The Waterfront an uphill task for their visitors from The Coal City.

On the other hand, The Flying Antelopes will count on cheers from a huge population of their south-east ‘brothers’ who have booming business ventures in many major markets of Lagos and are expected to troop into the arena with banners backing their darling team from Enugu.

Motivation from the fans has already been ignited by officials of Rangers, who declared that they are storming The Centre of Excellence with a vibrant battle cry tagged ‘Mission Nine,’ to symbolise their title desire with a memorable slogan.

“We’ve activated our mission nine, which is geared towards winning our 9th NPFL title,” said Rangers GM/CEO, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku ahead of Sunday’s last game of the season, though their major rivals for the gong, Rivers United play at home on the same day simultaneously.
