‘Sports Bassey’ added during the event at Eden Hotels, Eket that it was an intellectual outing that provided fresh insights into the ideal operating codes journalists should follow, especially in the days of negative influences of social media.
The former sports editor, publisher, broadcaster and ex-chairman of Akwa United FC of Uyo also described the event as a venture that supported the need for professionalism in daily activities of journalists.
While also thanking the organisers and resource persons, Bassey added that the symposium was timely and very relevant, then urged all media persilonalities present to carefully absorb the knowledge gained and use it well in their journalism duties.
Bassey declared at length, “Thoroughness in investigation of news content should be the watchword that gives the much needed effects to the profession. This is something intellectual.
“The quality of papers presented is something that should live with you. The key word in this hall is professionalism. Let us be very thorough in news investigation. We are different from those who believe that having an android phone makes you a journalist.”
Sports247 gathered that the symposium, which had dignitaries in attendance from across Eket Senatorial District and beyond, featured lectures, interactive sessions, panel discussion, award presentation, goodwill messages and entertainment.
