Poland-based Star Ready For Special Eagles Cap

Nigeria’s team to this year’s Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico is bound to enjoy the experience of a player based in Poland, as sports 247.ng gathered that Gloria Versovia star, Bamgbopa Abayomi Alabi has signaled his intention to play for the Special Eagles.

Sports247.ng reports that the Special Eagles are set to compete at the 2018 Amputee Football World Cup from October 24 to November 5 and Alabi, who won Poland’s amputee football league with Gloria Versovia, is eager to make his mark for the country.

Alabi is one of the most experienced Nigeria players and has been playing in Europe since 2013 and will next year play in UEFA’s Amputee Football Champions League as Poland’s champions.

In 2014, Alabi played a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification for the same competition in Mexico, but lack of funds prevented them from attending that edition.

Now that a change of fortunes has come for the team, through a frenetic emotional fund raising campaign, Alabi hopes to star for Nigeria in their group against Russia, El Salvador and Brazil.

Alabi said: “I would have loved to join my fellow players who are camped in Nigeria but I read on the pages of newspapers that the country has issues with funds.

“I had the intension of training with the guys before the World Cup and to share my experience about this game in Europe, because they get lot of supports.

“The Polish Amputee Football team approached me to join them for the World Cup but I refused because of the love I have for Nigeria.

“Some individual claimed I do not want to camp in Nigeria because I am based in Poland, that is untrue. I just want the Nigeria team to focus on what they are doing, we are all the same.”
