The director of Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, Zack Amodu has reaffirmed the event’s status as a platform for promoting cultural excellence, youth empowerment and community development in Edo State.
Sports247 reports that Amodu gave the assertion while announcing the appointment of Dr Adebukola Bojuwoye as head of the medical unit for this year’s edition of the race, holding next Saturday, May 30, in Okpekpe, Edo State.
He pointed out that Dr Bojuwoye, a seasoned medical professional with extensive experience in road running events across Nigeria, is expected to add value to the race through his expertise, especially in ensuring safety of all competing athletes.
The race director also announced five new corporate partners for the 2026 edition of the race organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing Company in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State and first road race to get World Athletics label status in Nigeria.
Edo State governor, Monday Okpebolo also affirmed his commitment to supporting the event, which has since advanced to Gold Label Race status, citing its role in promoting tourism, community pride, and international recognition for the region.
Amodu reeled out the names of some new sponsors of the race, whose partnerships underscore the event’s impact beyond sport, adding: “We are delighted to welcome DBN, Petralon, Razzl, and Carloha Motors as partners for the 11th edition.
“Their support, alongside the backing of Edo State government, not only helps to strengthens the valuer of this race but also reinforces its role as a platform for promoting cultural excellence, youth empowerment, and community development.
