Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) President, Francis Obih is counting the benefits and blessings of the governing body’s recent retreat, which he pointed out helped them hold ‘strategic conversations’ aimed at improving the sport.
Sports247 reports that Orbih spoke in the wake of the two-day programme in Abuja, which he described as a useful platform for officials and stakeholders of the sport to refresh themselves in the basics of badminton administration.
Orbih disclosed that the retreat, which brought together many stakeholders in Nigeria’s sporting fraternity, was aimed at repositioning badminton for sustainable growth, grassroots expansion, elite performance and impact in sports economy.
He further revealed that the retreat was organised to align stakeholders behind a unified vision for the sport over the next four years, as the federation focuses on player development, gender equality, technical education and financial stability.
“This retreat is about having strategic conversations that will give direction to the future of badminton in Nigeria. Our focus is on grassroots development, technical advancement, elite performance and creating pathways to produce podium results.
“We are also developing coaches, umpires, technical officials and administrators because every part of the system is important for sustainable growth. We also want more women involved both in playing and administration,” Orbih submitted.
