NPFL: We wanted to start well – Baba Ganaru

Coach Baba Ganaru placed ‘great value’ on the manner of Elkanemi Warriors’ opening weekend win of the season over Akwa United.

Substitute Ba’akaka Ajikolo profited from Olorunleke Ojo’s expensive gaffe in stoppage time to give El-Kanemi Warriors an efficient 1-0 win away to the Promise Keepers in Uyo.  Ba’akaka, who had barely touched the ball since coming on as an 85th minute substitute at a time his team was at the back foot; the hosts threatening fire and brimstone which largely turned out like a fruitlessly rare thunderstorm in the summer, turned the match winner as El-Kanemi get a result on opening day for the first time in four years.

“I give great value to how we achieve things, and not so much on what we achieve. The boys really played very well and gave their best. Winning in Uyo is not an easy task,” Baba Ganaru mused to Sports247.ng

“The fact is that we have started well, presented a good image and playing good football and this was the premise that we had despite the new faces that we have seen arrive.

“We have played a very good game and it is difficult to assess the opponent. We knew we could not go wrong, it was clear that we had to keep a clean sheet to begin with.

“It was something that we had to improve on from last year. I do not think we have seen the best of Elkanemi Warriors yet.”
