The National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF) has called on the Nigeria Football Federation’s Players Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC) to convene before the start of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season to resolve outstanding issues affecting professional players.
The new NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, with the players’ body urging the PSAC to address unresolved cases and ensure that its previous decisions are effectively enforced.
A major concern raised by the NANPF is the continued delay in implementing PSAC decisions, particularly sanctions against clubs that fail to comply with rulings involving players.
The association also highlighted outstanding salary payments, saying delayed wages continue to affect players’ financial stability, morale and ability to perform at their best.
The NANPF wants the PSAC to provide clear direction on how clubs that default on salary obligations will be sanctioned and ensure that players who have secured favourable rulings are able to receive what is owed to them.
The players’ body also called for urgent attention to trade restraint issues, which it said could prevent players from securing transfers or new contracts and consequently restrict their career development.
It further urged the committee to review contractual issues affecting players, including working conditions, fulfilment of contractual obligations and mechanisms for resolving disputes between players and clubs.
According to the NANPF, resolving these matters before the commencement of the new season would provide greater clarity for clubs and players while strengthening confidence in Nigeria’s football regulatory system.
The association believes closer coordination between the Nigeria Football Federation, PSAC, NPFL and players’ representatives is necessary to create a more transparent and professional environment for footballers.
The NANPF said effective enforcement of regulations and protection of players’ contractual rights would ultimately contribute to the credibility, competitiveness and development of the NPFL.
