Speaking exclusively to Sports247 after the match, Lateef admitted that even he was surprised by the quality of his performance.
“I am so happy with my performance. I didn’t expect such, but I was so happy seeing the fans’ reactions during and after the match,” he said.
Interestingly, Lateef’s goalkeeping heroics came under unusual circumstances. The youngster revealed that he was not originally expected to play in goal but stepped in because his team was short of a goalkeeper.
“This is my second game for my team. I ought to play, but we were short of a goalkeeper, and I chose to keep,” he explained.

Following his extraordinary performance, Lateef revealed that he has already made a personal decision to continue developing as a goalkeeper.
“I promised myself after the game that I will continue as a goalkeeper from now on. It really suits me,” he added.
