NPFL: Newly Appointed Ogunmodede Promises to Repay Kano Pillars’ Love

Newly appointed Kano Pillars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has pledged to reward the confidence shown in him by the club and its supporters following his appointment ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The 46-year-old tactician, who recently signed a two-year contract with the four-time Nigerian champions, expressed gratitude for the warm reception he has received since taking charge of the Sai Masu Gida.

Reacting to the overwhelming support from the Kano football community, Ogunmodede assured the fans that he would work tirelessly to restore the club to its former glory.

“Thank you to the Kano people for the trust and belief. I have received several messages and the love is massive. I promise not to let us down,” Ogunmodede said.

Ogunmodede succeeds Muhammad Babaganaru after Kano Pillars embarked on a rebuilding process following a difficult 2025/26 campaign, during which the club finished 15th in the NPFL and narrowly avoided relegation.

The former Remo Stars coach arrives with a strong reputation, having guided the Ikenne-based club to their historic maiden NPFL title in the 2024/25 season. He is also expected to continue serving as assistant coach of the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle.

His immediate task will be to rebuild Kano Pillars into genuine title contenders and restore the club’s status among Nigeria’s elite, with preparations for the new league season already underway.

The appointment is widely viewed as a major statement of intent by Kano Pillars as they seek a return to domestic success after an underwhelming campaign.
