A 1-0 loss to Inter Lagos on the last day of matches at the 2026 Super-4 of Nigeria National League (NNL) left the coach of Sporting Lagos, Buter Jeffrey disappointed and sad, Sports247 reports.
Although he admitted that winning the trophy despite losing on the last day was a huge lift for him, the tactician from Benue State confessed that it would have been better to have won all three matches.
Jeffrey then brushed aside disappointment caused by the defeat and gave thanks to God for making his team’s Super-4 conquest possible, despite Friday’s loss, and congratulated his players for how their efforts were crowned with gold medals.
The gaffer fondly called ‘BJ’ told Sports247, “We thank God for this trophy. The first thing for me is always God. We also put a lot of hard work into it.
“The players gave it everything they could, and I am happy that we won the cup. I am not happy, though, that we lost the last match.
“We wanted to keep our winning streak going the way we launched it. That would have been a lot better; but we have to accept what we have.
“We will now turn our focus on next season. We just have to enjoy this moment for now, then think about the NPFL later on. Let’s just cherish this trophy for now.”
Sports247 reports that Sporting Lagos edged Inter Lagos on goals difference, after both sides finished with three points each, as a 4-0 thrashing of Doma United on Wednesday made all the difference.
In the other corresponding games, while Sporting Lagos defeated Ranchers Bees of Kaduna 1-0 on the opening day, Inter Lagos defeated the same team 2-0, but they lost their first match 1-0 against Doma United.
