Doma United of Gombe’s coach, Najib Mabo has reflected on his team’s implosion during the Nigerian National League (NNL) Super-4 in Ikenne, Ogun State and declared that they should not be judged by those results.
Sports247 reports that Doma United won their first game 1-0 against Inter Lagos FC, only to scandalously lose the next two fixtures versus Sporting Lagos and Ranchers Bees of Kaduna.
Despite lying level with Sporting Lagos before their clash on Wednesday, Doma went on to lose 4-0 and, when they still had hope to clinch the title with a high margin win from the last match, they lost it 3 1 to Ranchers Bees.
In reaction to the serious downward slide that befell his team at Remo Stars Stadium, Mabo admitted it was a huge setback but expressed hope that they will do better next season in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Mabo added that the club will use the NNL Super-4 experience as a learning point and work on all the lapses noticed there in order to get things right during their return to the top-flight NPFL.
He also thanked The Savannah Tigers’ owner, Alhaji Suleiman Umar (Mai Doma) for backing him all the way, but blamed the team’s defeats on loss of concentration and failing to convert begging chances.
He said “It was unfortunate that, after winning our first match, we couldn’t win in our second and third games. What happened was largely due to loss of concentration at critical moments. In most cases, before we could settle down, the damage was done. Our opponents punished us for our failure to convert our chances.
“The Super 4 is an eye opener for us to prepare well for the NPFL. No NNL team will go into the NPFL without reinforcement. Moreover, you can’t judge us with this Super-4, because we just discovered many new things, which we are going to correct,” Mabo projected.
