NNL Super-4: Doma United’s Secretary Murtala Sambo Insists Gombe-based Side Can Still Win Second-tier League Title

The club secretary at Doma United of Gombe, Murtala Sambo has come out with a fiery verdict that his team is still in contention to win this year’s second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-4 title.

Sports247 reports that, though Doma United will enter their last match of the competition with a heavy 4-0 loss to Sporting Lagos from their outing on Wednesday, Sambo is staying upbeat about a historic resurgence for his team.

The amiable scribe declared enthusiastically, “You cannot predict football correctly. For instance, nobody thought that Sporting Lagos would defeat us so heavily.

“That’s why we are hoping that, when we play Ranchers on Friday, we too can get the same margin that Sporting Lagos got against us. That’s football for you.”

He concluded by revealing that one big factor spurring the players is the need to reward their proprietor, Alhaji Sulaiman Umar, who Sambo affirmed has never relented in adequately funding the club.

“We give kudos to the chairman of this club, Sulaiman Umar, who’s doing an outstanding thing to power the club. He’s the only person who is singleg handedly funding this team.

“It’s a private-owned club, but we have nothing to complain about. He has been running this club tight from our days in the Nationwide League One.

“He has been there with us through NNL, and now the team is back in the Premier League. I know he’s capable, he’s okay, and he’s ready to support us more.

“He did not give up when we were relegated, and I’m happy that we played only two seasons in the NNL. Now that we are back in the NPFL, he’s still up and doing.

“The club chairman is ready to finance Doma United to the highest level. I’m sure he’s in a good position and ready to back this club fully in the Premier League,” Sambo asserted.
