The captain of Inter Lagos FC, Uchenna has come out with an emphatic declaration that his side is still in contention to win the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-4 in Ikenne, Ogun State, because he believes anything can happen in their last match versus local rivals, Sporting Lagos.
Sports247 reports that Sporting Lagos enter the decisive derby match at Remo Stars Stadium with six points and +5 goals difference, while Inter Lagos have three points and just +1 difference, which tilts the scales against Njoku’s side.
However, rather than raise his hands in surrender, the fast-paced right-side-winger and indigene of Imo State told Sports247 that Inter Lagos are determined to pull off a huge shock, the same way Sporting Lagos surprised everyone by defeating Doma United 4-0 on Wednesday.
Njoku, who previously played for Papilo FC and Heartland of Owerri, as well as Calabar Rovers, declared emphatically: “The trophy is still possible for us to win it. This is football.
“Nobody thought Sporting would defeat Doma 4-0 on Wednesday, but it happened. For our final game against Sporting on Friday, we too can score four goals or even more … anything can happen.”
Njoku also spoke about his team’s promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), which he described as a very heroic achievement that came after several years of trying and in his first season as captain of the side.
“I am very happy for our promotion to the Prenier League. It’s something we were fighting to get for over three years. I am happy that we eventually got it right.
“I appreciate the efforts of our coaches, our fans, and the management. They all really worked very hard for us to achieve the promotion ticket.
“We now plan to be the number one club for this season in the NNL, and I believe we are going to achieve it on Friday. The trophy is still possible for us to pick,” Njoku emphasised.
