Nigeria’s Flamingos Get Prominent Mention Ahead of FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

While all eyes are for now on the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, which began this past Saturday and the Falconets face Spain in their opening match on Monday, Nigeria has gained a prominent mention ahead of the cadet version in Qatar.

Sports247 reports that, though the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup is still two months away, Nigeria’s clash with the Republic in Group B has been named among the high-profile games to watch out for at the global championship, which is scheduled to be held from November 19th to December 13th.

The Flamingos’ game with Korea is still far off, and attention for now is on the Falconets, but previews are already rolling ahead of the clash between Nigeria and the defending champions on Friday, October 23rd at the Women’s Football Complex.

It will be the last group fixture for both sides, one that pits potent attacking talent against a formidable, dominant defensive and tactical unit, as the Flamingos breezed through African qualifying by scoring 19 goals, while Korea soar on the back of their Asian Cup conquest.

A preview by fifa.com noted, “The Group B favourites collide in its finale, as Nigeria take on two-time reigning champions DPR Korea. Blessed with potent attacking talent, Nigeria flew through African qualifying with Harmony Chidi and Queen Joseph netting ten of their 19 goals.

“It could be the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object here, as DPR Korea enter these finals off the back of a dominant AFC U-17 Asian Cup win, in which Yu Jong-Hyang scored 15, including four in the final.”
