Nigerian-born utility player Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has received a lifeline of sorts and an opportunity for regular games at Manchester United of England, as the club’s coach, Michael Carrick, is considering giving him a new role in the squad, Sports247 reports.

While pointing out that the 21-year-old Dorgu has not featured under his tenure because he has been injured, Carrick said he is looking at the possibility of the Denmark international winger filling in as the Red Devils’ regular left-back.
Carrick confessed that the left spot of his defense is still a worry for him, and he is now considering Dorgu to take over the role from Luke Shaw, who featured in all 38 of United’s EPL games last season, for the first time since arriving in 2014.
That role may now be handed over to Dorgu, who began his professional career at Lecce of Italy in 2023, where he played for two seasons before moving to Manchester in 2025, a year after he made his senior international debut for Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
As the gaffer now seeks solutions to the left-back’s role, Carrick believes Dorgu is his solution to the problem and spoke out in favor of the dreadlocks-wearing star, who was signed by United’s former boss, Ruben Amorim.
Carrick is ready to make the plunge, after recalling that Dorgu once played as a left-wing-back in Amorim’s infamous 3-4-2-1 system, thereby paving a way towards the possibility of regular games for the Nigerian-born lad who grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark and started at the local team, Husum Bold Klub.
“He has done it before, without doubt. I’m not sitting here saying he can’t do that. It’s just the way we’ve been since I’ve been here. He actually has been injured, unfortunately, for some time. So, for me, he’s almost like a new player.
“It’s almost like a new signing in some ways. He’s played off the right for Denmark, scored a great goal in the summer playing off the right in a forward position. He can play left-back. He can certainly play there,” Carrick said.
