Summer signing at Willem II FC of the Netherlands, Chidozie Obi-Martin has received a strong vote of confidence and pledge of support to help him excel at his new base, following his arrival on loan from Manchester United of England during the past week.
Sports247 reports that the 18-year-old lad, who is popularly known as Chido Obi, will feel assured of having enough time to settle down and prove his mettle without any pressure, following a declaration of support by Willem II’s technical director, Freek Hearkens.
Chido Obi would be relieved to hear Heerkens speak in glowing terms about his quality, as the technical buff explained what kind of impact the teenager can have at the club, where he will aim to get regular playing time that he was not assured of at Old Trafford.
However, there appears to be an open-ended inference in his loan deal at the Dutch Eredivisie outfit that Chido Obi would be heading back to Manchester at the end of this season, considering that there is no option for Willem II to buy in this deal.
Globally renowned transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano added that Chido Obi will return to Old Trafford at the start of next season with a better chance of getting a spot in the squad, where he debuted less than 12 months after joining their youth ranks from Arsenal.
Incidentally, Chido Obi hit headlines the day he became United’s youngest-ever starter in the English Premier League, when he lined out against Brentford during a top-flight game in 2025, and all expectations are high that his time at Willem II will help him attain maturity.
Heerkens added, “Chido is a young, talented striker who is in his development at an important moment. He has been able to develop in a top-class sports environment at Manchester United in recent years and now likes to make flying hours.
“We can help him with that and the Eredivisie is an excellent stage for that. At the same time, our selection with Chido needs a striker who can be of value to the team with his qualities.”
