Sports247 reports that two wins on the bounce put Nigeria in firm control on home soil, while Uganda are also matching them toe-to-toe to grab the zone’s second ticket up for grabs at two venues in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade’s special assistant media, Kola Daniel, disclosed that Nigeria is leading the ICC sub-regional Africa qualifier C, following victories in their first two matches, with Uganda keeping pace in the race for only two qualification tickets into the next stage of the 2027 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier.

Nigeria tops the six-team table with four points from two matches and a net run rate of 5.6129, ahead of Uganda, who also have four points but a net run rate of 3.8635; while Lesotho and Mozambique occupy third and fourth spots respectively, with two points each from one win and a defeat.

Daniel added, “The tournament, which began on October 20 at the twin cricket ovals in Abuja, is bringing together Nigeria, Uganda, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia and The Gambia in a round-robin contest for two places in the next phase of the global qualification pathway.

“Nigeria’s strong start is providing an encouraging boost to the host nation’s campaign as the senior men’s team seeks to build on the country’s recent progress in international cricket, including qualification for the ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup for a second consecutive time and the under-19 men’s promotion to Division One.

“DG of the National Sports Commission, Honourable Bukola Olopade welcomed the participating teams and officials to Abuja, while describing the competition as an important platform for showcasing Africa’s growing cricket talent and strengthening sporting partnerships across the continent.”

Sports247 gathered further that, though Nigeria and Uganda appeared to be setting an early pace, the race for just two qualification spots is still open, as all the teams continue putting up gallant displays during the intense contest in Abuja.
