The Bundesliga Rookie of the Month accolade is reserved for players aged younger than 23 at the commencement of the season and who have not previously started a Bundesliga match in their career.

Additionally, nominees must have accumulated no more than 450 minutes of game time prior to the current Bundesliga season. This opens the door for emerging talents who are yet to fully showcase their potential on the big stage.

Monthly winners of the award receive the esteemed Bundesliga Rookie trophy, with the chance to compete for the ultimate title of Rookie of the Season. The voting process involves fans (40%), Bundesliga clubs (30%), and a panel of Bundesliga experts (30%).
