A product of the Nigerian domestic league, Isa Clarkson is relishing memories of his outing this year as the chief coach of Fedan FC of Lagos in the third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO), Sports247 reports.
It was the third straight season for the team based at Ashiribo in Ijanikin area of Lagos, and Clarkson said he was satisfied that they placed fourth at the Alade Stadium centre near Ipaja.
He disclosed that all players in the team that trains on an open-air sandy pitch next to Federal Government College, Ijanikin gave a good account of themselves and the club’s management also did them well.
While setting his mind on achieving better results next season, the native of Adamawa State, who grew up in Jos and started playing football as a teenager in Lagos, based the strides he is making as a coach on the experience he gained as a player.
“I started playing football actively when I got to Lagos, and I was privileged to sign for FHA FC at FESTAC Town. That was a solid beginning for me,” Clarkson recalled.
“Playing actively with FHA in Lagos State League gave me a good foundation for my football career. That experience was what helped me to succeed as a defender in the Nigerian league.
“I played for Calabar Rovers, Doyin Babes of Ilorin, Obeya Babes of Otukpo and Arewa Babes. I also played for some months in Dubai, but the deal did not work out as I wanted it to.
“That’s how I returned to FESTAC Town, and I started playing for ECOWAS All Stars before I eventually hung my boots and started coaching a team called Burger FC at Okoko.”
Clarkson further told Sports247 that his next target is to seek promotion with Fedan FC to the second-tier Nigerian National League (NNL) and possibly take them up to the top-flight division in the nearest future.
