Nigerian-born Jamal Musiala Declared ‘Fine’ After Fainting During Bayern Munich’s Pre-season Friendly

Bayern Munich of Germany’s Nigerian-born midfielder, Jamal Musiala has been declared back in ‘fine’ condition after appearing to faint due to stifling heat during the club’s pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig on Saturday, Sports247 reports.

Information from Germany indicates that, though it was a substitute role for the 23-year-old Musiala, who was born in Stuttgart, Germany on February 26, 2003, the dazzling midfielder struggled to stay on his feet, as a heatwave of 33 degrees Celsius swarmed across the arena.

However, after being caught by a teammate before he fell to the turf and he received immediate medical attention on the pitch, Musiala, who has survived two fractures in the past couple of years, has now been cleared fit and may feature when Bayern kick off their competitive season this weekend.

Expectations of a role for Musiala in the German Super Cup fixture against Borussia Dortmund came after Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl spoke with optimism in a short update about the player’s situation, saying: “He is fine, and that is the most important thing.”

Earlier, a report by UK’s Daily Mail revealed, “Jamal Musiala appeared to pass out during his side’s friendly win over RB Leipzig, sparking concern among players and fans. The midfielder had just scored to make it 3-1 to his side in the 81st minute, but appeared dazed and confused just two minutes later.

“He was caught by new teammate Ismael Saibari. After the Morocco star lowered him to the ground, medical staff rushed onto the field as Bayern players surrounded the 23-year-old. Amid a hush from the crowd, the medical staff eventually gave a thumbs up.

“Musiala, who played at the World Cup with Germany, had only been introduced as a 69th-minute substitute, but had to leave the field of play soon after. England captain Harry Kane was not involved in the game but returned to training alongside the likes of Michael Olise this week.”

Sports247 gathered that huge expectations are still on about a rosy future for Musiala, who has a Nigerian-British father, Daniel Richard, and a German mother with Polish roots, Carolin; forming a nuclear family that lived in Fulda until he was seven, before moving to England.

Musiala eventually grew up in England, where he first attended Corpus Christi School in New Malden, from where he got contacts to play for a number of local football clubs, including Fulham, Brentford and Wimbledon in the EFL Utilita Kids Cup, which he won twice.

For his secondary education, Musiala attended Whitgift School in Croydon and spent the last years of his childhood at Chelsea Academy, from where he was called up to play for Germany and England at youth level, but he finally pledged allegiance to the country of his birth in February 2021.

In 2019, at age 16, Musiala and his mother returned to Germany, and he soon joined Bayern Munich, following which he made his Bundesliga debut on June 20th, 2020 against SC Freiburg and became the youngest to feature in a German top league game for the Bavarians, aged 17 years and 115 days.
