Elder Chief Shepherd Amariegbu has celebrated another remarkable achievement after guiding Dinice Royal Investment to victory at the Island AllStars Sports Club International Above-45 Football Tournament, completing a remarkable double as both player and coach in less than six months.
Speaking exclusively to Sports247 after the grand finale, Amariegbu attributed Dinice Royal’s success to the grace of God, unity within the team and his long-standing commitment to football.
“I have done it again today, emerging as a champion as a player and coach. In less than six months, a double champion of Island All Stars. It is by the special grace of God and unity among the team,” he said.
The veteran tactician revealed that football remains a major part of his daily life, despite his busy schedule. He explained that his commitment to maintaining fitness has been strengthened by his involvement with youth football.
“I have owned a football academy in Eti-Osa for over 18 years. I don’t allow my busy schedule to stop me from training. I trained this body; if I left it, I am going to be fat. I trained with the youth teams to burn the fat.”
For Amariegbu, football is more than just a sport—it is a lifestyle.
“I eat football, I sleep with football every day,” he declared.
His experience also proved valuable during Dinice Royal’s dramatic comeback in the final. With Network Times leading 1-0 late in the encounter, Dinice Royal refused to surrender, eventually drawing level through their goalkeeper’s spectacular free-kick before going on to triumph.
Amariegbu revealed the message he passed to his players throughout the contest was simple: never give up until the final whistle.
“I advised my team that it is not over until it’s over. Until the final whistle, the game is still on.”
He also explained the tactical decision to push players forward in search of an equaliser, noting that moving from the defensive line into attack was necessary to increase the pressure on their opponents.
The comeback marked another memorable chapter in Dinice Royal’s growing success at Island AllStars.
“The comeback repeats itself for us, and we glorify Almighty God for the opportunity,” Amariegbu concluded.
With another trophy secured, the veteran coach and player has once again demonstrated that experience, fitness, belief and unity can remain powerful weapons long after the traditional playing years.
