“Nigeria Will Top the Group” — Abdulrraheem Saeed Backs Super Eagles for AFCON 2027 Qualification

Following the official draw for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) POMOJA 2027 qualifiers, confidence continues to grow around the chances of the Nigeria national football team advancing to the continental tournament.

The draw, conducted on May 19, 2026, at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association in Cairo, placed Nigeria in Group L alongside Madagascar national football team, Tanzania national football team, and Guinea Bissau national football team.

With Tanzania already qualified automatically as one of the tournament co-hosts, only one additional team from the group will secure qualification for AFCON POMOJA 2027 — a situation that raises the stakes for every remaining nation in the group.

Speaking in an interview with Sports247Naija, an active football referee and official of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Abdulrraheem Saeed Mohammad expressed strong belief in the Super Eagles’ ability to dominate the group and qualify comfortably.

“The chances of qualifying and topping the group is certain looking at the current form of the Super Eagles,” he stated.

Despite concerns that Tanzania’s automatic qualification could increase pressure on Nigeria, the sports official insisted the three-time African champions possess enough quality and experience to finish top of the standings.

“No pressure, Nigeria will top the group. We have the players that can make it happen,” he added confidently.

When asked about the biggest potential threat in the group, the referee identified Madagascar as a team capable of causing problems for Nigeria during the qualification series.

“Madagascar will be a threat, but with our full squad, we should qualify with maximum points,” he explained.

He also shared his preference regarding the possible final team in the group, revealing that Guinea Bissau would be the more favourable opponent for the Super Eagles.

“Guinea Bissau is the easiest. It will be an easy ride for the Eagles,” he said.

The official further highlighted areas he believes the Nigerian team must improve ahead of the qualifiers and the tournament itself.

“The midfield is paramount and a bit of clinical finishing in the attacking space,” he concluded.

Nigeria will begin preparations for the qualifiers in the coming months as the Super Eagles aim to secure another appearance at Africa’s biggest football tournament.
