Nigeria Tennis Rising Star Seun Ogunsakin Downs French Opponent, Advances in J500 Milan Qualifiers

Nigeria’s rising tennis sensation, Seun Ogunsakin, made a strong statement at the prestigious Trofeo Bonfiglio in Italy after recording a dominant victory in the opening qualifying round of the competition.

The talented Nigerian defeated France’s Evan Simon 6-2, 6-0 in an emphatic display to progress further in the qualifying series of the highly-rated junior tennis tournament currently taking place in Milan.

Ogunsakin, who is seeded No. 9 in the qualifying draw, showed confidence and composure throughout the encounter as he comfortably outclassed his French opponent in straight sets.

The victory keeps the Nigerian youngster firmly on course for a place in the main draw of one of the biggest junior tournaments on the International Tennis Federation calendar.

The J500 Milan tournament, popularly known as the Trofeo Bonfiglio, is regarded as one of the most prestigious competitions on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors circuit.

The event attracts many of the world’s best young tennis players and serves as a major preparation tournament ahead of the junior Grand Slam events, especially Roland Garros.

With the impressive opening-round win, Ogunsakin is now two victories away from reaching the main draw of the tournament, a feat that would further underline his growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s brightest tennis prospects.

The Nigerian star will now shift focus to his next qualifying match against Kazakhstan’s Daniel Tazabekov as he continues his quest for glory on the clay courts in Italy.

The qualifying rounds of the tournament are scheduled for May 16 to 17, while the main draw will run from May 18 to 24 in Milan.

Ogunsakin’s performance has continued to excite Nigerian tennis followers, with many hopeful that the youngster can make a deep run at the prestigious junior event.
