Michael Obafemi Awaits Southampton’s New Coach

Southampton of England’s Nigerian-born striker, Michael Obafemi is now awaiting the arrival of a new coach, following The Saints’ management’s decision to sack Mark Hughes.

Despite pulling off a Herculean 2-2 draw at home against Manchester United on Saturday, Obafemi’s coach appears to have paid the price in how his side allowed The Red Devils storm back from two goals down to share points at Saint James’ Park.

Consequently, sports247.ng gathered that Obafemi, who was recently cap-tied at full international level by Republic of Ireland, will be on the look out for the next gaffer to tinker his development in south of England.

Obafemi will also have to adjust under new tactics, as The Saints’ first team assistant manager, Mark Bowen and coach, Eddie Niedzwiecki have also left the club.

Southampton, who were 2-0 up against Jose Mourinho’s United at home on Saturday at one stage, are 18th in the Premier League, just one point ahead of bottom club Fulham.

Hughes was sacked due to poor results for Southampton, the struggling Premier League club announced on Monday, despite a good performance in the draw against United.

“We would like to express our thanks to Mark and his staff for all of their efforts during their time at St Mary’s.
“The search for a new manager to take the club forward is already under way,” Obafemi’s club disclosed in a statement.
