English Premier League watchers are still raising talking points about different fortunes for the London-based Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi, following another weekend of varying effect for both stars.
While Moses was not dressed for Chelsea’s 2-0 win the London derby against Fulham, sports247.ng reports that Iwobi played 46 minutes for Arsenal in their 4-2 spanking of Tottehahm Hotspur.
Iwobi played a key role, as Arsenal ended Tottenham’s six-game winning streak in the North London derby thriller at Emirates Stadium, on an evening four rival teams from the British capital city were in action.
As Moses continues wallowing in redundancy at Stamford Bridge and was not dressed for The Blues’ fourth straight match, it was Iwobi’s 12th game for The Gunners in the EPL this season.
Iwobi looked resplendent again for Arsenal, who extended their fairy tale unbeaten run to 19 games, after taking the lead on 10 minutes, from the penalty spot, as Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang kept his nerve to hit target.
Iwobi had a chance to double Arsenal’s lead in the 20th minute but his side-footed shot was saved by Hugo Lloris in goal for Tottenham.
Eric Dier equalized midway through the first half with a flick header from a free-kick from Christian Eriksen in the 30th minute.
Spurs took the lead four minutes later from the spot through Harry Kane, his eighth in North London derby history, after Son Hueng-Min was fouled in the box by Hector Bellerin.
At the start of the second half Arsenal manager Unai Emery took off both Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as the Spanish gaffer sent on Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey, with instant effect.
Aubameyang made it 2-2, firing in a superb strike from the edge of the box in the 56th minute, after which Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead in the 75th minute.
Lucas Torreira then sealed a comprehensive victory over the visiting Spurs in the 184th North London derby with a fine strike from inside the box.
While Nigerian-born dazzler, Dele Alli was replaced in the 80th minute, Jan Vertonghen was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 85th minute of the encounter.
Arsenal, who now have 77 wins as against Spurs’ 57 wins in the North London derby, move up to the fourth spot in the EPL table with a +14 goals difference ahead of Tottenham in fifth place.
Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their next game, while Alli’s Tottenham will look to bounce back from this defeat when they face Southampton at the Wembley Stadium.
