MFM Basketball Triumphs in Nigerian Women’s Basketball League Final Four

In a spectacular showcase of talent and determination, MFM Basketball emerged victorious in the Nigerian Women’s Basketball League Final Four, held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, from October 17 to 19, 2023.

Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, was on hand to witness the thrilling final match between MFM Basketball and Nigerian Customs, where MFM Basketball clinched the title with a hard-fought 64-60 victory.

Senator Enoh heaped praise on the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), led by Engr. Musa Kida, for their impeccable organization of the event, underlining the significant progress women’s basketball has made in the country.

He commended the depth of talent on display, highlighting the potential for national team selections and attributing the recent success of the D’Tigress to this wealth of talent.

“In this Final Four, the level of competition we have seen unequivocally demonstrates the significant progress women’s basketball has made,” Senator Enoh stated, expressing his confidence that Nigerian talent, both local and abroad, could stand tall against any international competition.

MFM Basketball’s journey to the inaugural league title was a testament to their determination and hard work, drawing the Minister’s admiration.

Furthermore, Senator Enoh commended privately-owned clubs, like MFM Basketball, for their excellence in sports and called for increased private investment in sports.

Zenith Bank, the league’s sponsors, also received applause for their unwavering commitment to the development of basketball in Nigeria. Senator Enoh called upon other organizations to follow Zenith Bank’s example and invest in the growth of sports within the nation.

MFM’s Regina Donanu received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, along with the highest three-point conversion prize, underlining her pivotal role in the team’s success.

Iwuji Vivian’s achievement of the highest rebound award added to the accolades of an event filled with talent and tenacity.

Air Warriors secured the first runner-up position, while Nigeria Customs earned the second runner-up position, setting the stage for an even more competitive and exciting season next year.
