Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) president, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa has expressed a strong desire that the country will excel at the upcoming continental championship in Algiers, Algeria, where he believes the experience they recently gained at home will make a difference.
Sports247 reports that Dimkpa spoke against the backdrop of the successful conclusion of this year’s Japanese Ambassador’s Karate Championship, which hit a climax last weekend at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and the KFN boss described it as more than a contest for medals.
Dimkpa quickly chipped in that all attention must now shift towards the 2026 UFAK African Karate Championship, which is scheduled for September 6th to 13th in Algiers, while urging the country’s karatekas to embrace discipline, respect and courage in order to excel on the continent.
While harping on the need for excellence, as the KFN seeks to reposition Nigeria for greater success in the martial arts sport, Dimkpa commended the coaches, referees, technical officials, volunteers and other stakeholders for making the Ambassador’s championship successful.
He emphasized the importance of partnerships, particularly between the KFN and Embassy of Japan, as well as corporate organizations, while expressing optimism that their collaboration with the Ambassador will grow stronger and yield more dividends in the years ahead.
Dimkpa noted, “The Japanese Ambassador’s Cup is a KFN Ranked Event rated Factor 6. It gave our athletes a valuable opportunity to improve their national rankings while also testing their preparedness for higher-level international competitions.
“It also served as a build-up to the UFAK African Karate Championships in Algiers. I wish our team success at the African Championships in Algeria, and that the development of karate will strengthen the bond of friendship between Nigeria and Japan.”
