Majid Balogun Relishes Opportunity To Grow, After Signing Professional Contract With West Ham United

West Ham United’s latest Nigerian-born youngster, Majid Balogun has spoken about his desire to continue growing at the London-based club, following his official signing of a professional contract with the team.

The 18-year-old forward, who joined West Ham from Manchester United ahead of the 2024/25 campaign on scholarship terms, said he feels really good getting his first professional contract, after impressing in the club’s academy.

He played only two seasons at Old Trafford, prior to signing a scholarship contract with West Ham in July 2024, following which the fast-paced wide player made his under-18 debut in a 3-2 loss to Arsenal on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.

Balogun, who played 45 games for West Ham’s under-18 side across two seasons and was a key contributor to their 2025 U18 Premier League Cup triumph, added: “It feels really good. I think every young player is working towards this moment.

“It’s a big thing to achieve but, at the same time, you always want more. This is a really good platform to go on and achieve bigger things. I’d never really experienced something like that before.”

He also recalled his early days at the EAST London club, especially when he had to live with foster parents because he was under aged and, on hind sight, Balogun submitted that it was a worthwhile experience that has shaped his outlook about life.

Balogun recalled, “Going to live with a host family was a big change. In digs at West Ham, you’re around your teammates all the time, but there it was just me and the family, so it definitely took some getting used to.

“It was difficult at first, but when you really love something, like I love football, you’re willing to make sacrifices for it. I’m really glad it’s paid off and I’m so grateful for this opportunity because not many people get the chance.”
