Ismaheel Taofeek Wins Polish League Title With Lech Poznań

Nigerian winger Taofeek Ismaheel has etched his name into Polish football history after helping Lech Poznań secure the 2025/26 Polish Ekstraklasa title.

Lech Poznań sealed the championship with a commanding 3-1 away victory over Radomiak Radom on Saturday, clinching the title with one game left to play and sparking celebrations across Poznań.

The triumph makes Ismaheel the first Nigerian-born player to win the Polish top-flight title since Emmanuel Olisadebe achieved the feat with Polonia Warsaw during the 1999/2000 season.

The Lagos-born winger joined Lech Poznań on a season-long loan from Górnik Zabrze last September as the reigning champions sought to strengthen their attacking options for both domestic and European competitions.

Ismaheel played an important role throughout the campaign, contributing pace, energy and creativity on the wings.

One of his standout performances came in Lech’s 4-1 victory over Termalica Nieciecza, where he scored a stunning long-range effort during the tense title race.

The Nigerian also impressed in the UEFA Europa Conference League, delivering goals and assists in matches against Rapid Wien and KuPS.

Born on July 16, 2000, Ismaheel began his football journey at Hype Buzz Academy in Abuja before moving to Norway in 2019 to join Skeid.

He later featured for Fredrikstad FK, earning a move to French side FC Lorient in 2022.

After loan spells with Vålerenga and SK Beveren, he permanently joined Górnik Zabrze in 2024 before making the switch to Lech Poznań.

This season, Ismaheel made 21 league appearances for Lech after featuring seven times earlier in the campaign for Górnik Zabrze.

Though not always a regular starter, his versatility and direct attacking style proved valuable during crucial moments of the title-winning season.

With Lech Poznań now preparing for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League qualifiers, the club are reportedly considering activating the permanent option in the Nigerian winger’s contract.
