Lauritta Onye Targets Para F40 Gold At Abuja 2018

Special sports athlete, Lauritta Onye has declared that she is set to upgrade from bronze to gold at this year’s National Sports Festival in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Sports247.ng reports that the national team athlete, who has been inactive since 2016, said she is now at her best and believes it will be victory all the way for her in Abuja.

She recounted how she dropped to brinze at the last festival of 2012 in Lagos, but argued that it was because she did not feature in her preferred event, which she says will be a different story in Abuja.

Consequently, the shot put F40 specialist said she will compete for the first time in two years after her record at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Onye, who won bronze in the 40kg class para-powerlifting at Eko 2012, said she is eyeing gold for Delta State in women’s shot put F40 event.

She admitted: “This National Sports Festival is my first competition since Rio de Janeiro 2016.

“I have been missing several World Championships since 2016 but I am still good to go at the Sports Festival.

“At the 2012 National Sports Festival in Lagos, I competed in the Para Powerlifting and was able to win a bronze medal for Team Delta in the 40kg class, where I carried 82kg.

“This time around, the story is going to be different because I will feature in my original sport, hereby winning a gold medal.”
