Head coach of Mighty Stars, Jolayemi Kunle has expressed appreciation to the organizers after his team received the sum of N250,000 and a giant trophy at the just concluded LAB memorial football carnival.
The one-day event which was held on Monday at the Abete playground, Iwaya saw Mighty Stars defeat the J-Save football team 5-4 on penalties after a barren draw the regulation time to emerge the winners.
Kunle in a chat with Sports247 thanked the organizer for their commitment to grassroots football saying that the club management would use the prize money to cater to the needs of the players and club.
“We have received our N250,000 as the prize money for the champions. We thank the organizers for organizing a football competition in which our club won the inaugural edition. I strongly believe that the management would spend the money judiciously,” he said.
In his own comment, the J-Save football team, Adewole Abejoye whose team received the sum of N100,000 also thanked the organizers for the prize money.
The two other teams also received the sum of N50,000 each.
The mini-football competition was staged in honor of a late youth developer and motivator, Layiwole Ayinde Balogun who enacted great empowerment efforts during his lifetime.
The aim of this competition is to provide a new aspect through which the youth of Iwaya will be empowered, utilized, and attracted to community productive ideas that will take them away from juvenile delinquencies or social mischief.
