Super Falcons interim head coach Austin Eguavoen has expressed delight with Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Comoros, praising his players for delivering an improved performance to secure a 7-0 aggregate win in their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie.
Eguavoen, who guided the team through both legs, credited the players’ commitment in training for the convincing result.
“Very pleased. I’m very, very happy. Congratulations to the girls, they made my day,” he said.
“I remember I kept begging them, because I’m in a new terrain. We need everybody’s support, and the response in training showed in the game.”
The former Super Eagles coach acknowledged that Comoros performed better than in the opening encounter despite suffering a heavier defeat.
“I would say the Comoros team improved. They improved, they got five behind the net, so it’s a little bit of a tricky one,” Eguavoen explained.
“They knew they had nothing to lose, so they had to play.”
Turning to his future, Eguavoen admitted that his continued involvement remains uncertain, given his primary responsibilities as the NFF’s Technical Director.
“Next game, hopefully I’m here. I know I’m Technical Director. If I don’t continue on this job, I go back to my office,” he stated.
The coach also praised a late call-up who impressed after being handed an opportunity following another player’s withdrawal.
“Luckily for her, a player pulled out, and she had a chance to come. I think she has proven that her late call-up was worth it,” he said.
Eguavoen suggested he would recommend the player to whoever handles the team in the next round.
With Nigeria advancing comfortably, the interim coach believes the squad has demonstrated encouraging progress.
For Eguavoen, the commanding victory provides satisfaction and confidence, even as uncertainty remains over whether he will lead the Super Falcons in the next stage of Olympic qualification.
