Kwara United Are Starting Afresh – Bala

Kwara United of Ilorin coach, Abubakar Bala has admitted that he is starting from scratch with The Harmony Boys, because he aims to give them a better campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Heading into the start of the new season early December, Bala said their scorecard of the past campaign was not just good enough, and sports247.ng gathered he has embarked on an overall of the squad.

Bala explained further that he kept faith with only 13 players out of those from last season because he does not want the club to struggle.

Bala said he parted company with most of the players he worked with last season because they could not measure up to standards.

He recalled that The Afonja Warriors were in relegation zone most of last season under John Obuh, but says he was happy with his ability to steady the slide and keep the club afloat.

The soft-spoken coach said he does not want to face the same errors and challenges of last season, hence his move to ensure they do not present an average squad this time out.

Bala stressed: “We are starting on a clean slate because I have opted for players that can help me achieve my objective at Kwara United.

“This is unlike last season, when I made use players that were not up to my standard.

“I joined the club at a time when it was difficult to bring in new players but I had to manage what I got and were able to escape to relegation.

“We have the whole pre-season to ourselves and we have the type of players that we require to get the job done.

“I will only make use of 25 players because we are not going to play up to 38 matches like previous seasons.

“We will only pick the best in each position to ensure that we are well placed at the end of the season.”
