New Super Eagles invitee Moses Usor has described his first senior Nigeria call-up as a dream come true, insisting the team must concentrate fully on beating Madagascar before thinking about their next 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
The LASK forward is one of the new faces in Eric Chelle’s squad for Friday’s Group L opener at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. His invitation follows an impressive spell at club level, with the 24-year-old finally getting his opportunity with the senior national team.
Usor could barely hide his excitement after linking up with the squad.
“I feel good and I am really happy to be here,” Usor told Brila FM. “It was an amazing feeling because it was everyone’s dream to play for the national team.”
The former 36 Lion and Slavia Prague attacker has also been encouraged by what he has seen since joining Chelle’s camp, revealing that the intensity and mood in training have left the players confident ahead of Madagascar.
“The training session was good, and everyone is ready. Everyone is fresh and we are motivated for a win,” he said.
Usor’s international opportunity comes after an earlier setback. He had previously been invited for Nigeria’s Unity Cup campaign but was unable to honour that call-up because of injury, according to his former academy, 36 Lion.
Now fit and finally in camp, his attention is firmly on helping Nigeria make a winning start rather than looking ahead to the September 29 trip to Guinea-Bissau.
“It is one game after the other, so for now, I don’t think Guinea-Bissau should come first,” Usor stressed. “We focus on Madagascar and talk about the Guinea-Bissau game after the Madagascar game.”
For Usor, Friday could therefore bring two memorable moments at once — a potential Super Eagles debut and an opportunity to help Nigeria begin their AFCON qualifying campaign with maximum points.
