Immediate past President of Island All-Stars Sports Club, Ikenna Maduagwu, has applauded the club’s commitment to giving back to society, describing its community-focused initiatives as part of a broader vision to build a sustainable institution that will endure beyond individual members.
Maduagwu made the remarks in an exclusive SPORTS247 interview at the Island All-Stars PatrickLingo Super League at the Lagos Business School, while reflecting on the foundation’s social responsibility initiatives ahead of the club’s flagship Island All-Stars Intra-Tournament.
According to the former president, supporting communities and vulnerable members of society has remained an important tradition of Island All-Stars, with the club consistently seeking opportunities to make a positive impact.
“At Island All-Stars, we believe in supporting the communities and environments in which we operate. It has always been part of our tradition to support underprivileged individuals, schools and indigent patients in hospitals. This is our own way of fulfilling our corporate social responsibility to society,” Maduagwu said.
He commended the current leadership for sustaining the culture of giving back and for recognising the importance of implementing the initiative ahead of the club’s major sporting event.
“I therefore commend the leadership for considering it worthwhile to carry out this initiative ahead of our flagship event, the Island All-Stars Intra-Tournament,” he added.
For Maduagwu, however, the significance of the initiative goes beyond the immediate beneficiaries. He believes such programmes can help establish a strong institutional structure capable of surviving changes in leadership and membership.
“I am particularly pleased because this initiative reflects the importance of building a solid foundation and institutionalising our programmes in a way that allows the organisation to outlive individual members,” he stated.
The former Island All-Stars president stressed that continuity remains essential to the long-term success of any organisation, noting that members should be able to join at different stages, embrace the existing vision and contribute to programmes already established.
“The goal is to build a sustainable institution in which anyone can come on board, embrace the vision and contribute to the continuation of these established initiatives,” Maduagwu explained.
His comments highlight the broader philosophy behind Island All-Stars’ community engagement, with the club seeking to combine sports, networking, friendship and social responsibility.
While the PatrickLingo Super League provides a platform for members to compete and interact through football, initiatives by the club’s foundation demonstrate its commitment to extending that impact beyond the sporting environment.
As the Island All-Stars community continues to grow, Maduagwu believes institutionalising such programmes will be critical to preserving the club’s identity and ensuring that its culture of service remains intact.
For him, the true measure of success is not simply what the present generation achieves, but what it leaves behind for those who will come after them.
