President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has called for greater funding and stronger support for Nigerian football, insisting that Nigeria’s success would positively impact the entire African continent.
Speaking during a special session with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kenya, Motsepe highlighted Nigeria’s enormous football potential and influence within African sports.
“If Nigeria wins, Africa wins,” he said.
According to the CAF president, Nigeria possesses the talent, fanbase, and football culture capable of driving major progress across the continent.
“Nigeria has huge potential,” he implied.
Motsepe stressed that increased investment and support would help unlock even greater opportunities for Nigerian football development.
“More support is needed,” he noted.
The South African football administrator also proposed that Nigeria host the CAF Annual General Meeting, describing the idea as something that could benefit African football broadly.
“It would boost African football,” he added.
For Motsepe, Nigeria’s leadership role within African football remains extremely important because of the country’s historical and competitive significance.
“Nigeria plays a major role in African football,” he stressed.
The discussions also reflected CAF’s growing interest in strengthening partnerships with major football nations across the continent.
“We must work together,” Motsepe said.
Nigeria continues to be viewed as one of Africa’s biggest football powers both commercially and competitively.
For Motsepe, the message is clear.
Invest more in Nigerian football.
Support long-term development.
And strengthen Africa through its strongest football nations.
Because when major football countries progress, the entire continent benefits.
