Young football talent Shittu Adnan has revealed his ambition to one day represent Nigeria at the highest level, while highlighting the importance of hard work, education and family support in his journey towards becoming a professional footballer.
Adnan, who plays for Femmco Football Academy, spoke with Sports247 during the academy’s camping programme in Ifo, Ogun State, where young talents are being given an opportunity to develop their football abilities and prepare for future opportunities.
The promising youngster said his love for football started at an early age, with his passion for the sport and encouragement from his mother playing important roles in his development.
“I started football at a younger age and it motivated me to play football. But I have the passion to play football, and my mom was also supportive,” Adnan told Sports247.
The young attacker revealed that he prefers playing as a striker, while identifying some of the biggest names in world football who inspire him.
He mentioned Argentine icon Lionel Messi for his leadership qualities and also cited Serbian striker Dušan Vlahović among players he admires.
Adnan believes that maintaining focus and working hard both on and off the pitch will be crucial to achieving his ambitions.
“I believe and focus in the game with a lot of hard work will help me in my career and education,” he said.
One of his biggest dreams is to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria, with Adnan making it clear that his commitment to his country is unwavering.
“I dream of playing for my nation, Nigeria, and no matter the condition. I won’t trade my country of birth as others did.”
The Femmco academy player also singled out Victor Osimhen as an important inspiration for young Nigerian footballers, particularly because of the striker’s goalscoring ability and determination.
Interestingly, Adnan has his own preference regarding Osimhen’s future club. The youngster hopes the Super Eagles striker joins Arsenal, believing a partnership with England international Bukayo Saka could benefit both Osimhen and the team.
“I wish Victor Osimhen joins Arsenal because the link with Bukayo Saka as a winger will help him and the team a lot,” he explained.
Adnan also described himself as a big fan of Saka and expressed excitement at the possibility of meeting the Arsenal star someday.
As he continues his development at Femmco Football Academy, Adnan’s message is clear: the dream is big, but he understands that discipline, education, consistency and hard work must accompany talent if he is to turn his ambition of wearing the green and white of Nigeria into reality.
