Hoopers, Defenders Go To North Africa In FIBA League

Nigeria’s top two basketball clubs, Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt and Civil Defenders of Abuja will take long trips to North Africa, after they were drawn to face teams from that region for the continental league.

 

 

Sports247.ng gathered that Rivers Hoopers and Civil Defenders will have to redouble their efforts, if they are to shine in the inaugural edition of the FIBA Africa Basketball League, which has 16 teams in the contest.

Hoopers are drawn in Group A alongside defending champions, AS Sale of Morocco, JS Kairouan of Tunisia and SLAC of Guinea; while Defenders will face 2014 finalist ES Rades of Tunisia, Zone 3 second runner up, Elan Sportif of Benin Republic and BC Terreur of DR Congo.

The games will hold in a round robin format from February 8 to March 10 after which the top two teams from each group will advance to elite-8.

The full draw has – Group A: AS Sale (Morocco), Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria), JS Kairouan (Tunisia) and S.L.A.C (Guinea); Group B: ES Rades (Tunisia), Civil, Defenders (Nigeria), Elan Sportif (Benin), BC Terreur ( DR Congo)
Others are – Group C: Al Ahly (Egypt), Primeiro De Agosto (Angola) and Ferroviaro Beira (Mozambique) and R.E.G BBC (Rwanda); Group D: Petro de Luanda (Angola), Smouha (Egypt), ASB Mazembe (DR Congo) and C.O.S.P.N (Madagascar).
