Nigeria’s sprint hurdling queen, Tobi Amusan, continued her strong 2026 athletics season with a podium finish at the Shanghai Diamond League on Saturday, barely days after striking gold in Accra.
The world record holder clocked a Season’s Best of 12.41 seconds to finish third in the women’s 100m hurdles event after arriving in China less than 24 hours before the race.
American star Masai Russell stormed to victory in a Meet Record and World Leading time of 12.25s, while Bahamian hurdler Devynne Charlton finished second in a Bahamas national record of 12.38s.
Amusan, who recently captured another continental gold medal in Accra before making the trip to Shanghai, expressed delight with her performance despite the demanding schedule and travel.
“I’m grateful for the result and happy to start my Diamond League season with a podium finish.”
“Considering the travel and quick turnaround, I’ll take the positives from this race,” Amusan said after the event.
The Nigerian hurdler also expressed confidence that her performances will improve as the season progresses.
“It’s still early in the season and my focus is to keep improving with every race. I believe better performances will come as the season goes on.”
The Shanghai outing further underlines Amusan’s encouraging form ahead of a busy outdoor season that includes major international championships and Diamond League meetings.
With a continental gold medal in Accra and now a podium finish in Shanghai, the Nigerian star appears firmly on course for another memorable campaign.
